I cracked open my skeletor and popped my eardrum(which made it nice and bloody) riding a long board down a small hill behind LSHS. Yeah thats right. A LONG board. But Randzig I don’t know what a longboard is! Thats ok I’ve got your primer right here. Watch and learn.
Some say I was supposed to die that day and I think maybe I did… a little…but regardless I’m still in the presence of humanoids so I’ll have to deal.

Have you ever been to Cliff Drive in North East Kansas City? Apparently it was the place to be back in its day.

Cliff Drive, established in 1900, is the only Missouri scenic byway located in an urban area, passing right through Kansas City. The 4 ½ mile historic drive is also one of the shortest scenic byways in America.

There are many beautiful historic homes in the area. In this shot notice the castle like home Garfield Ave, and the homes on Pendleton Ave are quite nice too.

KC Museum is located in the area. Union Station has a website about it here…and another here.

Here is another page with historic information about the area.

Matter fact you can tour some of the Victorian style homes while they are decorated for Christmas. Wouldn’t mind seeing this home.

Anybody know what this is?

Ends up Lee’s Summit has ties to this mansion. Robert Long (Long View Farms) lived in this house.

Corinthian Hall, Long’s stately, 30,000-square-foot mansion, was built in 1909. After purchasing surrounding property, Long enlisted Henry Ford Hoit to design his new family home, gardens, stables, and carriage house. The end result was Kansas City’s first million-dollar home, and is now the Kansas City Museum.

Ok I’m done being bored…

Nobody can understand the miracle of something until you’ve lived without it.
Seeing is a learned process. What we see is always an interpretation of the mind. The eyes act as hands which reach out there and grab meaningless things and bring them into the brain The brain then turns the things over to the memory. Its not until the brain interprets in terms of comparative action that we really see anything. Some of us go through life seeing very little of the power and the glory around us. We do not properly filter the information that our eyes give us through the processes of the brain. As a result we often hold things without really seeing them at all.

Today is the big day. For at least two years talk of this election has filled the media. It has pretty much run me dry. I attribute the sparse blog posting to the whole election process. It can really run you down. After today we will hopefully have a clear president elect. (I don’t want to hear about any of that popular vote vs. electoral college crap.) And after everything we’ve been through I think its time we unite regardless of our political affiliation around things that make us feel alive. That for me is music. Thursday November 6th come celebrate your victories or lament your losses while the Brilliant Geographers play at KCs dopest new venue. Yes I said dopest…it worked. What? You didn’t know we were still a band? Me either actually…but we’ll be their and I hope you can too.

We will also be playing with our good friend Gerram Mathews.

If for no other reason it would be a good excuse to come see this new venue in the Cross Roads across from the Power and Light district.

This one is for Shim Daddy. I have 32 draft posts but I don’t post them because most of them are rants that will pi$$ people off. I’m good at ranting. But I don’t want this blog to come across that way all of the time hence the reason for not posting them…and hence the reason for all the post about the kids.

I generally speaking do not observe many points that I consider critical when discussing illegal immigration. For me it is usually a numbers issue. There is a point when a land is so filled with people that I don’t see it as unethical to close the door so to speak. Have we reached that point? I don’t know? But if we had then technically it wouldn’t be a moral issue. I know that doesn’t sound compassionate and to some unethical but its just a logical statement. At its worst and best its self preservation. It is what it is. However I realized there is irony in the fact that I went on a mission trip to Mexico and served the people I was supposed to hate(the people that want to cross the border and take my job). In general my personal stance on immigration hasn’t changed but my mind will be more fixed on points like the ones mentioned in this video in the future: How to Solve Illegal Immigration.

BTW: I really like the pinky show site.

You get your average American workers all riled up that their jobs are being stolen by these illegal immigrants. Supposedly these illegal immigrants are sucking the profits from our economy. “They must be getting very very rich.” Of course this is absurd. There are profits, but the big profits are not going to illegal immigrants, they are also not going to the middle class. In actuality a disproportionate amount of the nations wealth is being systematically funneled to the pockets of the riches of the rich. Even conservative economist agree on this.

This first point is a big deal to me because it is very typical of ignorant American workers to not realize that the blame of their financial well being is being redirected to the immigrants. In other words we could all be making more money but the corporations will use any device available to grow profits. This is probably explained a little better in the video. Watch the video if needed.

They’ve (Americans) basically taken a group of people from tremendously impoverished places living extremely difficult lives and they have successfully branded them(immigrants) as a bunch of criminal opportunist hellbent at exploiting Americas generosity. Which is of course totally ironic because first world exploitation of the third world has historically been the driving force behind creating that poverty they are trying to escape in the first place. The lack of awareness or compassion is extraordinary.

Corporations go to a third world country, raise the standard of living, and when profits aren’t as enormous as they would like them to be they leave. Then all the people in the third world are helpless all because we wanted more “every day low prices” at Walmart. So again I see the problem here being the corporation. You personally may not want people to live in poverty. You may even go on a mission trip(like me) to serve the people in poverty. But the corporations will set up a model where by you feel clean from any harm caused to other human beings and they get to grow their business. You could almost say its like the immigrants are coming across the border or out of the water to breathe but we keep holding their head under the water telling them that they have to work on our rules or no rules at all.

I feel these points are pretty undeniable. Do I know what to do about them? No. I do however see there is a complete lack of thought on the part of Americans. To be more specific a complete lack of critical thinking on the part of southern whiskey tango who believe Toby Keith when he sings “This is our country“. We get all pi$$ed off that Mexicans are stealing our jobs as if our favorite shoe maker was not the one that destroyed their sustainable way of life. No matter how much you love your country you can not suck up all the resources and man power of other countries and it not come back to harm you. That is just neglect.

I struggle with the fact that I pointed out earlier. The fact that I buy (often without even knowing) products, and have a lifestyle that contributes to injustices that contradict my own beliefs. It does make the redeeming, restoring of these people on mission trips feel ironic in my personal experience. Regardless of how it feels and the irony of our inaction-then-action thank goodness for people like my sister in law that go on mission trips to do the work of redemption. Please pray for Shauna who is on mission in India.
