MUZIG

For quite some time I was playing in a rock band. When I was a freshman in highschool I began playing guitar and a band simultaneously. I never looked back. For about 8-9 years all I could do was pour myself into songs and melodies. It was something that was deeply embeded in my soul. I put my axe down to rest when I was 23 at the first of 2003. Basically I felt responsibility calling me. To this day I still enjoy playing guitar but I very seldom pull out the distortion. Lately I have become pulled in to the sounds of kī hō‘alu which means “loosen the [tuning] key.” Otherwise known as Slack Key Guitar. This style of guitar playing was created by native Hawaiians after Mexican ranchers brought guitars to the islands. The Hawaiians didn’t know any better so they tuned the strings to open chords. Meaning that you can strum the strings and play a chord without fingering with your left hand. I have always been drawn to music with a pacific feel so this was an natural step. I’ll probably change stuff on this page alot…

Most recently I have been playing bass for the Brilliant Geographers. I do not expect this to last for any extended period of time but this has been in excellent experience as I have been wanting to play bass severely after watching this documentary. Paul McCartneys truly unique bass playing style is totally overlooked by the fact that he is Paul McCartney. His songs are in fact some of the best ever written but his bass playing style is very rarely emulated. Emulating his style has kind of been my drive for playing bass. Also I have particularly liked not being in the spotlight as the frontman. There is an enormous amount of stress from every direction, including internally, put on the man that writes the songs. This I do not miss. I like having the opportunity to play for someone who writes songs I like and that I am able to enhance. And I like showing the fact that I can play in a band and be sensitive to the songwriters idea for his songs, instead of making it sound like something he doesn’t imagine. This always frustrated me and its something you wouldn’t understand unless you’ve been in the situation before. Anways, come to a show sometime and say hi.

If you want you can listen to some of my music.

  • BreakawayThis one got quite a bit of airplay on 96.5 The Buzz. And was voted #2 Best of Home Grown Buzz behind a group called Cyclomatic. A bunch of lame thirty year olds. Listen to the chorus. It picks up.

  • Say It Baby

  • Yesterday

  • Run To You

This is the album artwork for the 2nd EP we released titled “Wait For Summer”. That is the wife with the headphones on. I know, that title is way to indie but I promise when I wrote the song back in 97 the whole “summer song” thing really wasn’t being done.

  • Wait For Summer

  • Palm Trees

  • Cruise

  • Cut the Chord

  • This is pretty funny. I would demo songs in my room using an old computer and cakewalk. I was about 18-20 years old. Horrible recordings. Try your best to enjoy.
