I learned last year what every experienced gardener knows. Tomato cages are a joke. Specifically for vining types like Cherry Tomatoes. So this year I decided to try staking them. We got some bamboo and plastic stakes and have been tying up the main branches as they grow.
We used the square foot method for planting and I’m positive I’ll never use that method again for Tomatoes. They are just too close together.

For the Cantaloupe and Cucumbers growing off the side of the bed I created this tunnel out of concrete mesh. I was going to make it vertical but this was easier and more fun for the kids.

I tied the plants on but eventually they started doing that themselves. Pretty cool. This is perfect as it will keep the Cuc’s and Melons off the ground. Man I can’t wait to bite into one these Cantaloupe.
