Pet Comfort

This is another “I knew them when..” post.  And its an “I’m proud of them post”.

Two of the guys I’ve had the pleasure of playing in a band with for several years have gone on to form Pet Comfort.  Drew VanDyke,  the songwriter is Morée’s cousin and Luke Baker who originally played in Dreamer before Drew was in the band are the core of the group.  Its been 6 years since dreamer last played.  I honestly didn’t think it would take this long for them to get something going but they tend to work at their own pace.  Well I shouldn’t say that.  They did have a band Cruxed but Cruxed was heavier than Drew and Luke were deep down.  Drew and Luke are melody makers and I knew they wouldn’t stick with Cruxed for long.

Pet Comfort has been getting a lot of positive reviews lately and well deserved attention including this review by The Pitch titled
“Pet Comfort blows us away with new EP and a killer performance…”
So I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised when I was sitting on the pot at work (yes that pot) and I heard them talking and then singing in my ear.  I was on break listening to 810am.  I decided to switch to FM and I heard Lukes sweet voice in my ear on 96.5 The Buzz.  It was really strange at first but I heard Affentra say “Pet Comfort” and I almost crapped myself…at which point I already was. ;)   Whats strange is I never listen to The Buzz but when I flipped my trusty analog radio from AM to FM it was already set on 96.5.  Glad it happened that way.

They played one song called “Last Cigarette” and it was good.  It was typical Drew – Crappy Lo-Fi drum pad for tempo – soft voice telling a sweet story with slightly morbid word pictures – countering chord progressions -  melodic and not melodic at the same time – and of course Lukes girly high voice that wraps the whole thing up.  (I say “girly high” in an envious way.)  Nothing like how I typically write.

I’m going to try my best to make it to see them this weekend.  They are playing at Crosstown Station which is the nicer/cleaner venue across from the Sprint Center the Brilliant Geographers played at recently.  Its a benefit type thing called Rock Out Reach Out. May 16 they are playing with local favorites the Republic Tigers at the Bottleneck. That should be a good one too.

Way to go my brothas!
