As you probably know Michelle Obama took up the pitch fork and initiated a garden on the White House lawn. There was a petition to get President Obama to do this along with many others who are starting Victory gardens this year before he was even elected President. Facebook had one here, another here , again here. If you are thinking about starting your first garden you are not alone. Seed companies, garden supply stores are having problems keeping up with demands.
Even something as simple as a garden on the Whitehouse lawn is a very strategic move that Barak probably didn’t want to make himself. As Michael Pollan stated when agricultural policy is being made big agribusiness is standing in the room. Starting a garden goes in direct opposition to the centralized food system. Hopefully it doesn’t break their hearts.
