Green Bible

I like this.  The Green Bible.  Somebody get it for me. Thank You.

If this is what it says it is…a good translation that highlights how we are to steward the Creation, then I’d like to have it.  I could go looking for these versus on my own but that’d be to much work.

There are over 1,000 references to the earth in the Bible, compared to 490 references to heaven and 530 references to love, so the Bible carries a powerful message about the earth. This Bible is designed to draw attention to each and every reference by highlighting green scriptures in green ink in an effort to bring greater awareness to how this message is woven throughout the Old and New Testaments.

Just what I need, another Bible to read.

The problem with a comment like that is I can’t tell if you are being serious or sarcastic. Figured with all your bibles why not just get another!

i’d like to have this Bible so i can quickly reference scriptures for those who make fun of me and say- “gooo green”. I think i was once ignorant to thoughts about “the earth is His and all that is in it”… just had some backwards idea that i’ll die and leave all “this” behind. kind of a pretty selfish, disrespectful and backwards way to treat God’s original garden. i guess i could buy you this Bible.

So this is a cool idea – but does it come with an insert when you first receive it on how to properly recycle or pass on your old non-green Bibles? Or does it have organically-grown hemp from the middle east as it’s cover material?

I’m torn about Bible marketing. One side of me loves it and thinks its a great idea that a company can come up with different ways to package the Word of God so that people feel an ownership to the book. Even if it does come with a lime green and blue swirl on the front. For some reason, it might make people read it more.

But on the other hand, the gnawing side of me that works in marketing is hoping that they don’t just do this for the profit. Totally agree with the eco-friendly lifestyle and that it’s Biblical, but why didn’t they think of the eco-friendly Bible years ago if so many verses dealt with the earth? And just now they’re hoping on the band wagon after the green thing has been going on for several years, but has hit its climax as gas has escalated this summer. I just hope they weren’t so eco-friendly that they went cheap and didn’t use both red and green inks when highlighting verses.

If you get this, you’ll have to let me know. My verdict is still out…

    Danielle,
A few people have expressed something similar to me regarding this Green Bible. I’ve seen marketing schemes in the past and I’m sure bibles are not exempt.

For me personally every bible i’ve owned(or wanted to own) has had an edifying purpose that was unique. In this case its an NRSV translation which I don’t have. I feel like to appreciate it you have to view it as another tool in your tool box. Many of your tools can be used to do one job but most of them are meant for something specific.

With out making it sound to grand or using to big of words…if its a legit interpretation that does what it claims (focuses on the green thing by highlighting verses) then I’m all for it. My grandfather was a Gideon so I come from a line of people who are just trying to get bibles into the populations hands. Seems a good thing.

As far as the green thing is concerned it is just one of many trends that the modern evangelical church has neglected because it did not until now see the reality of Gods call. All through out history people have been “green” and concerned with sustainability. It would be a fallacy on our part to not embrace some of these things because people neglected them in the past.

And the most important reason I posted this is because…I’m creating a family outline. Kinda like a vision or declaration what I want my family to emphasis on. Stewardship of the earth is on the list along with enjoying creation. I want my family and kids to have a biblical posture of gratitude towards Gods provision. You know, food that is our sustenance comes from the soil not that building with the golden arch. Its only in the last 60 years that food really started to become manufactured. I want my kids to know, at least to a small degree, what its like to know that their help comes from God literally down to whether or not they eat each day. “Give us this day our daily bread.”

Not that you need to know or care but I just wanted to state how beneficial the Green Bible would be for me in this specific type of Bible study.

Thanks for the comment! Its great to think I have readers.
