Global Warming is becoming to be seen more and more as a moral issue. Some people give off this vibe as if Al Gore “owns” the global warming issue and therefore the only possible conclusion to be made is that Al Gore has the highest moral perspective. Then that conclusion leads to another that says that whatever his position is on anything else is the most moral possition possible. Ok so thats a slippery slope but some may understand what I’m saying.
People have historically thought of the democratic party as the party that is more concerned with social issues. At least thats their platform but just because they claimed it doesn’t make it completely true. The point I want to make is that nobody owns any issue. There seems to be this idea floating around that any one denomination, movement, political affiliation can own any certain issue just because they decide to emphasis on it.
I think people are beginning to realize there have been times where Christian leaders felt it wasn’t neccessary to emphasis on issues like aids, and other social issues but I’m pretty sure that that goes in complete opposition to The Greatest Commandment. I’m simply stating that as Christians our allegiance is to Christ and everything flows from that. It is becoming pretty clear that some issues have been neglected to long. What are a some that come to mind? What happens to other issues when we start emphasising in other areas?
So while we are called to be good stewards in handling the issues we are facing today it can seem to be a daunting task. How do we handle it? Even though we are called to care for the environment are we able to do that and stop genocide at the same time. Its unfortunate but sometimes prioritizing the issues is needed. This video below is from the TED conference. Bjorn gives a presentation where he shows that prioritizing the worlds problems may help isolate issues where the greatest good can be accmoplished. His presentation brings up some good points. Some may think that this is heresy but I pretty much agree with what he is saying.
