Led Kaapana & Mike Kaawa @ Knuckleheads

undefined

The weather was perfect for a night of kī hō‘alu.  Couldn’t have been a better evening.  Knuckleheads opened up the garage doors in the back of the venue which looks out onto the outdoor stage.  I was pleasantly surprised because I expected to be standing up the whole time inhaling smoke.  (Which may be how most concerts are but I don’t like that at all.)  My dad came with me so I was hoping that the venue and atmosphere didn’t get in the way of the good music.  He liked the venue also and mentioned going back.  I’m glad he liked it because it was a birthday gift.  He returned the flavor if you will.  He went away to the bar to order some food and came back with some excellent chicken wings from Ohana Hawaiian BBQ.  Whatever the sauce on the wings was I could have eaten with a spoon.  Seriously.

The venue is located in the East Bottoms.  A little difficult to get to but it makes for the whole experience.  Close by there are several houses with enough yard gear to have been on Roadside Revelations. My dad said he used to race his Camaro at a race track near where the venue was. He also claims that he had the first Camaro in Kansas City but I don’t know how he would back up that claim. “My dad says….” :)

I’m pretty sure the place in Kansas mentioned in the pitch…is the same place. I don’t know why is doesn’t show a location on their site.

Slack-key guitar in the East Bottoms…you have to like that.
