Six Degrees

Lately I have been amazed by the interconnectedness of my life with others lives. People I know, people I don’t know, people I know through other people, and likely, people that know me but I do not know them. What I feel that is significant is how remarkably similar our lifes and experiences are. Not just the typical things that occur in life…its the combination of those along with very specific attitudes, choices, opportunities… Maybe this is normal maybe it is not? What do you think? I can be at times a hopeless romantic in thinking that there is something more important at stake when there is in fact not. If there isn’t then nobody loses but if there is…

I have often thought of you in light of being a “Lover not a Fighter”,so seeing that you have likened yourself to a hopeless romantic it all makes perfect sense! For those of you out there that might not know the author of this blog he truly does have many fans out there who know of him, yet he has never met or heard of them. Now the question that might arise from such a statement is “How did he become so well known”? Well a few years ago a story was written and produced about a toy who was alive but only when his owner was not around. Well if that doesn’t give it away I’m talking about the movie “Toy Story”, and the main character WOODY. See Woody’s life was created on the bases of the life of Randle Scofield and his remarkably similar looks to such a character. So the next time your in Wal-Mart and see little WOODY just remember the creator and editor of this overly fine blog!

  7. [...] Recently I posted a thought regarding the world in which we live. I’m often astonished by the fact that we are often connected to the people we don’t even know. This is in refernce to the six degrees of separation idea. You have probably heard of it before…I’m sure it will come up in Google if you haven’t. Sometimes I feel that there is some sort of meaning to this. How is it we are so similar and connected to each other yet so different? For example I received an unsolicited email from a friend with a joke in it. The joke was lame but I was surprised when walking into Macy’s to hear a woman ask another woman if they got the email about…(the one I got). These emails just fly through cyberspace faster than fast. I’ve also been thinking a little about the deterioration of communities in our country. Throughout history it seems like communities have thrived when there was adversity. You know a reason to fight. And adversity usually leads to a mission in opposition to conflict. But now there is a lack of mission. The lack of mission has left our communities divided. The “But now there is a lack of mission” is in reference to the lack of mission after any movement(example: Tree Huggers changing the world with LSD). In the past people have united over very simple ideas. These types of ideas typically were not that profound but affect people profoundly. Like black rights, the American Revolution, the Reformation… Its crazy to me how something so simple can unite people and yet these same people(me included) divide over things so small. Here is the question I’ve been contemplating…When your involved in a community is it worth dividing over these smaller issues? Obviously the answer at times is YES and I agree this is the case often. But a more specific question would be- When do you unite in spite of differences? Does anybody ask this question? I’ll stop rambling. Watch this video I feel it relates to the first paragraph in particular and also in ways to the second. Its a good intro to the current state of the web. And in my mind how it works in connecting people. [...]
